Philippians 4:8-9
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
The note in my Bible says, "Paul understood the influence of one's thoughts on one's life. What people allow to occupy their minds will sooner or later determine their speech and action. Paul's exhortation to 'think about such things' is followed by a second exhortation, 'put it into practice.' The combination of the virtues listed in verses 8-9 is sure to produce a wholesome thought pattern, which in turn will result in a life of moral and spiritual excellence."
Romans 8:6 says "The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace." I want life and peace - real life and real peace! Paul says (in Philippians) to do that - think about those things that are true, noble, right, pure, admirable, lovely, excellent, praiseworthy - and "God, who makes everything work together will work you into His most excellent harmonies" (Philippians 4:9 The Message). By keeping my thoughts pure and on things that are true, God will work me into His most excellent harmonies - which I believe includes real life and real peace!
